Six Sentence Sunday 5-29-11

Feed, Prey Love

Here's another excerpt from my upcoming novel. Talib is close to breaking down the walls he's surrounded himself with and is about to let Conley in.

His own voice startled him. I’m talking to myself now? A longing originated in the pit of his stomach and grew like a flame licking at dry wood, growing slowly and steadily until it took hold and became a full-bodied fire. Instead of burning, the flame warmed him from within, filling the void which he had grown too accustomed to living with.

Like an old friend, a sensation took hold, perhaps fueled by the fire burning within his heart. Hope, once again, pure and expansive, reached to his outermost cells and extended beyond him, like a force that drew energy in.

Six Sentence Sunday 5-22-11

Another six sentences from my upcoming novel, Feed, Prey, Love.

As Conley walked back toward his room, the scent of coffee wafted through the air. As tempting as his the caffeine was, he headed back to his room and grabbed his jock strap, a pair of cotton shorts, and a tank top. A run, pumping his muscles, taking in the bright greens and blues of a cloudless Providence summer day, this is what Conley craved; what he needed.

He hadn’t stepped two feel out of the elevator at the lobby level when he was confronted with the one thing that had set his mind and body in motion. Even though he had his back to Conley, there was no mistaking that Talib was walking outside. Without saying a word, as if his mind had called to Talib, the beautiful pale man turned to face him, eyes wide, sapphire blues burning from within.

D. H. Starr

http://dhstarr.blogspot.com/2011/05/this-is-six-sentences-from-my-upcoming.html
This is six sentences from my upcoming novel Feed, Prey, Love. Talib is lonely and doubtful that he will ever find love.

Talib laughed and followed Purvis into the building. It wasn’t often that he allowed anyone to fix him up, but something in Purvis’s excitement tugged at the one emotion he tried to suppress at all times…hope. It seemed each time he believed he could actually find someone who wanted him, and not just his body, he was always let down. But beneath his fear, Talib did hope that there was someone out there for him.

Following Purvis into the building, his mood to lightened, despite his misgivings of actually meeting someone who could fill the void that had been consuming him for nearly a century. Maybe this time would be different.
